# How to write a LinkedIn message to a potential client

Last updated 28 October 2026

When you write a LinkedIn invitation message to a client, HeyLead can help you reach the people who buy what you built. HeyLead is an AI agent for LinkedIn outreach: it finds the right people, writes to them in the voice of your own LinkedIn posts, follows up, and handles replies. It runs from Claude Code, Cursor, any MCP client or a web dashboard.

## What a message to a potential client is

You send this message when you have noticed something about their business and think you can help. They do not know you yet. The person reading it works at a company that might buy from you.

Your campaign goal is to sell a product or service. You want to reach the people who buy what you built.

## The shape of your message and what to write

Keep the length under four short lines. You need a clear reason to write. You can mention something you noticed about their business. You can describe a problem people in their role often face. You can also name a result a similar team got, if you can name it truthfully.

The shape of your message matters.

- What you noticed, in their terms.
- Why it made you write, in half a line.
- A question about their situation, not your offer.

## What to leave out of your note

A good message focuses on the client. You must avoid certain details in your first note.

- Prices and plans.
- A list of your features.
- Claims about results you cannot back up.

## The brief to type into HeyLead

You type a one-sentence brief in Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or the HeyLead dashboard. HeyLead drafts the campaign. You review it and press Launch. Nothing is sent before. One sentence creates a draft campaign.

HeyLead watches 40+ signal types, scored, matched to your ICP and expiring. A strong signal starts outreach and the opener says why now. Before an invitation, HeyLead warms up: a profile view, a follow, a comment on a recent post. It sends an invitation with a note, an opening message, up to 2 follow-ups on Free and 5 on Pro, InMail and email fallback.

It works in Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop and claude.ai, any MCP client and a web dashboard. It works in ChatGPT as a custom MCP app. This is tested on ChatGPT Pro. Custom apps depend on your ChatGPT plan and settings.

There are six campaign goals: sell a product or service, find a job, hire people, find partners or investors, find a vendor, research interviews. Hire people, find partners or investors and research interviews work with a custom brief.

## How HeyLead handles replies and limits

Replies are read, classified and answered from the campaign's facts. Anything ambiguous is held for you. A "not now" reply gets a check-in in 30 days. Opening messages, follow-ups and answers to replies wait for your approval until you switch to autopilot. Invitations, not-now check-ins and meeting nudges are not held.

It runs from the cloud with your laptop closed. It reads your own LinkedIn posts to learn how you write and never posts unless you ask for a post. HubSpot is the CRM it syncs with. Google Calendar is the calendar it books into.

Free costs $0 for one connected account with 2 follow-ups. Pro costs $29 a month per connected account. The client's source is on GitHub under MIT. The hosted backend is not.
