# How to write a LinkedIn message to a hiring manager

Last updated 2 November 2026

When you want to send a LinkedIn message to a hiring manager, HeyLead can help you reach the people who hire for the role you want. A short note can put you on their list before the applications pile up.

## What a message to a hiring manager is

The person who reads this message is the one who will manage the role you want.

You send it when you find the role and the manager.

A short note can put you on their list before the applications pile up.

HeyLead is an AI agent for LinkedIn outreach: it finds the right people, writes to them in the voice of your own LinkedIn posts, follows up, and handles replies. It runs from Claude Code, Cursor, any MCP client or a web dashboard.

## The shape of the note and what to leave out

The message should be three or four short lines.

You must name the role exactly.

You include one line of proof from your own work.

You end with a small ask.

This ask can be a short call or a question about where to send your application.

- Leave out your whole career story.
- Leave out asking them to look at your profile and get back to you.
- Leave out pressure about timing.

## Examples of messages by situation

You can write for different reasons.

You might write about the role you saw and why it fits what you have done.

You might write about something their team shipped or posted.

You might write because a mutual contact suggested you reach out.

- Hi Sarah, I saw the frontend developer role at Acme Corp. I built a similar React checkout flow at TechCorp last year. Do you have five minutes for a short call?
- Hi David, I read your post about the new data pipeline at Globex. I work on data engineering at DataCo and would love to apply for your open data role. Where should I send my application?
- Hi Elena, Mark Smith suggested I write to you about the marketing manager role at MarketCo. I ran a campaign that grew our leads by a third last quarter. Do you have time for a brief chat?

## The brief to type into HeyLead

You can use HeyLead to find a job.

This is one of its six campaign goals.

You type a one-sentence brief in Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or the HeyLead dashboard.

HeyLead drafts the campaign.

You review it and press Launch.

Nothing is sent before you press Launch.

HeyLead watches 40+ signal types, scored, matched to your ICP and expiring.

A strong signal starts outreach and the opener says why now.

1. Type your brief into your client.
2. Review the drafted campaign.
3. Press Launch to start the outreach.

```
create_campaign goal='job_search' target='hiring managers for frontend developer roles in London'
```

## Limits and features of the outreach

Before an invitation, HeyLead warms up with a profile view, a follow, and a comment on a recent post.

The outreach includes an invitation with a note, an opening message, and follow-ups.

You get up to 2 follow-ups on Free and 5 on Pro.

It includes InMail and email fallback.

Replies are read, classified and answered from the campaign's facts.

Anything ambiguous is held for you.

A not now reply gets a check-in in 30 days.

Opening messages, follow-ups and answers to replies wait for your approval until you switch to autopilot.

Invitations, not-now check-ins and meeting nudges are not held.

HeyLead runs from the cloud with your laptop closed.

It works in Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop and claude.ai, any MCP client and a web dashboard.

You can also use it in ChatGPT as a custom MCP app.

This is tested on ChatGPT Pro.

Custom apps depend on your ChatGPT plan and settings.

Google Calendar is the calendar it books into.
