# LinkedIn connection requests with or without a note

Last updated 18 October 2026

When you send LinkedIn connection requests, HeyLead's own invitations show that requests without a note are accepted most often, but those with a note get more replies.

Source: HeyLead's own outreach, the invitations HeyLead sent from its own team's workspaces, 10 March 2026 to 18 September 2026, each at least 30 days old, read 18 October 2026. Each person is counted once. Accepted means the person accepted the invitation; replied is a share of those who accepted. Seniority is read from the person's job title. Rows with fewer than 30 people are not shown. Nobody is named. Published under CC BY 4.0: reuse it with credit and a link to heylead.dev.

## What the data is

HeyLead is an AI agent for LinkedIn outreach: it finds the right people, writes to them in the voice of your own LinkedIn posts, follows up, and handles replies. It runs from Claude Code, Cursor, any MCP client or a web dashboard.

The invitations were sent with HeyLead from HeyLead's own team's workspaces between 10 March 2026 and 18 September 2026. Each invitation was at least 30 days old when counted. Each person was counted once. Seniority was read from the person's job title. Groups of fewer than 30 people are not shown. Time to accept was not measured. Nobody is named.

## Why the reply rate matters

The data reveals a trade-off between growing a network and starting a conversation. Invitations sent without a note between 10 March 2026 and 18 September 2026 (n = 441 people invited) saw 31% accept. This group accepted most often. However, an accepted invitation was not a conversation with this group. Only 18% of those who accepted replied. They replied least often.

Invitations sent with a note between 10 March 2026 and 18 September 2026 (n = 336 people invited) saw 28% accept. The note did not raise acceptance here. They accepted least often. Yet, 22% of those who accepted replied. With a note did not accept most often but replied most often once they had accepted.

## What to write or do

You can use these patterns to plan your own outreach. Define your immediate goal. Send requests without a note if you want to maximize your connection count. This works well if you plan to nurture them through your posts over time.

Write a note if you need a direct reply. The note acts as a filter for active interest. Track your own numbers. Wait at least 30 days before you count your accepted requests. Measure how many of those accepted requests turn into replies. Prepare a strong opening message for the people who accept a blank invitation. They are now in your network but they do not know what you want.

## The brief to type into HeyLead

You type a 1-sentence brief in Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or the HeyLead dashboard. HeyLead drafts the campaign. You review it and press Launch. Nothing is sent before. Before an invitation, HeyLead warms up: a profile view, a follow, a comment on a recent post.

HeyLead watches 40+ signal types, scored, matched to your ICP and expiring. A strong signal starts outreach and the opener says why now. Replies are read, classified and answered from the campaign's facts. Anything ambiguous is held for you. Opening messages, follow-ups and answers to replies wait for your approval until you switch to autopilot. Invitations, not-now check-ins and meeting nudges are not held. The client's source is on GitHub under MIT. The hosted backend is not.

## Limits of this data

These numbers reflect 1 sender's specific campaigns. They are not a LinkedIn benchmark. They do not represent an average across all users. Your own targets might respond differently to a blank request. Different industries have different habits for networking. A note might perform better or worse depending on your exact offer. You must test both approaches with your own audience.
